Pair of French Alpine Pine Stools, Valmeinier, C1950
A pair of mid-20th-century pine stools from Valmeinier in the Maurienne valley of Savoie, in the French Alps. Constructed with thick, square plank tops supported on four straight legs, with simple peg-jointed frames beneath. Their unadorned, geometric forms have a distinctly vernacular character, with an almost Brutalist simplicity reflecting the practical traditions of Alpine furniture.
The pine has developed a warm, reddish-honey colour, with visible grain, knots and subtle variations in tone. Equally suited for use as stools or small side tables.
In good vintage condition, with light surface wear and a mellow patina consistent with age.
Sold as a pair.
