Mid-Century Three-Panel Cane Folding Screen, C1960
A European mid-century folding screen, constructed from three slender cane-framed panels, each filled with a closely spaced arrangement of individually bent circular loops. The repeated forms create a continuous geometric pattern across the screen, with fine cane bindings securing the intersections and giving definition to the openwork construction.
The warm, honey-coloured cane and restrained geometric design reflect the renewed interest in traditional cane-working techniques during the 1950s and 1960s, when natural materials were increasingly used in contemporary furniture. The three panels are joined by their original brass hinges and screws, allowing the screen to fold and stand at different angles.
In good vintage condition, with a mellow patina and light wear consistent with age.
H 182cm, W 53cm (one panel only), W160cm (in full)
