Original Early Ink on Paper Portrait by Trevor Bell, 1956
An original ink on paper portrait of a woman by Trevor Bell (1930–2017), signed and dated 1956.
Bell moved to St Ives in 1955, where he became part of the influential group of artists working around the town and joined the Penwith Society in 1956. These early St Ives years were a formative period in the development of his work.
A striking early portrait, loosely worked in ink with confident brushwork and areas of deep wash. The paper has mellowed with age and carries areas of foxing, giving the work an honest surface that reflects its nearly seventy-year history.
Presented glazed, in a hand-stained and waxed, bevel-edged wooden frame.
H 58.5cm, W 48.5cm
