An original charcoal on paper figurative study by Trevor Bell (1930–2017). Unsigned and undated, the work comes directly from the artist’s estate and forms part of a collection created between 1954 - 1956.

A beautifully observed study of a woman in profile, drawn with strong, economical charcoal lines. The elongated figure, ponytail and distinctly 1950s silhouette give the work a wonderful sense of the time. The paper retains the gentle wear and slight undulation of an original studio work of this age, which we have chosen to preserve as part of its history and character.

Bell moved to St Ives in 1955 and joined the Penwith Society the following year. These early years in Cornwall were an important and formative period in his career, as his work developed increasingly towards abstraction.
