Pair of Italian Rattan & Cane Armchairs, C1950
An unusual pair of Italian rattan and cane armchairs dating from the 1950s, entirely handmade with an open, sculptural construction.
The curved frames are worked with repeated loops of cane running from top to bottom, creating a distinctive diamond pattern and held together with finely wrapped bindings. Characteristic of post-war Italian design, when traditional craftsmanship and natural materials were being explored in increasingly modern ways.
In very good vintage condition, with a warm, naturally aged patina. Light and delicate in appearance, the chairs are reassuringly sturdy and comfortable, making them beautiful and usable occasional seating.
H (to back) 69cm, H (to seat) 37cm, W 69cm, D 65cm
