An abstract artwork in oil on board by German artist Michael Kreuter (1940 - 2022), signed verso and dated 1963. Presented in its original painted artist's frame.
This piece was created as an admission work for his studies in Europe in the 1960's.
Kreuter worked with abstraction, allowing colour to dominate, and envisaging a dreamlike, sensitive world he would like to see emerge. He aspired to "overcome the banality of the object by making it unrecognisable' through his works.
Born in Stuttgart in 1940, he studied art history there and in Vienna, followed by further studies in Paris and Tübingen. In 1968, he started work at the Goethe Institute, where he taught and painted. Kreuter exhibited his works regularly in both Germany and Italy, throughout his lifetime.
