A painting in oil on board by German artist Thilo Maatsch, signed and dated 1927. Presented in a hand-painted chalk-white wooden frame.
Graphic artist, painter and sculptor Thilo Friedrich Maatsch (1900 - 1983) became known for his geometric and abstract paintings of colour fields in the 1920's. These paintings are characterised by decorative colours and a general lack of spatial depth.
After his first solo show in 1932, Maatsch's work was added to the nazi list of degenerative art, further to which he was conscripted to the army during the war years. His art was rediscovered roughly twenty years after the war was over and was honoured with several exhibitions in short succession.
