An original Henry Cliffe (1919-83) abstract pencil sketch on paper of a landscape. Beautifully simplistic and a study piece from a body of his work in 1974. Float mounted and presented in a lightly waxed oak frame.
Cliffe was born in Scarborough, Yorkshire, and studied at Bath Academy of Art where he went on to run the lithography studio. Printmaker, painter and sculptor, he was a regular exhibitor in international exhibitions and in 1960 was one of the five artists selected to show in the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, which included Eduardo Paolozzi and Victor Pasmore. He had his first solo show of paintings at The Redfern Gallery in 1956.
